Oyo Assembly approves Makinde’s annual leave, deputy gov to act

The Oyo State House of Assembly has officially approved Governor Seyi Makinde's request to take his annual leave. During his absence, Deputy Governor Adebayo Lawal will assume responsibility for overseeing the state's affairs.

Governor Makinde's leave is scheduled to commence on August 10 and conclude on September 11, 2026. He is expected to resume his official duties on September 14, 2026. The assembly's approval followed the consideration of a formal letter submitted by the governor, adhering to the constitutional requirement for governors to notify the State House of Assembly before embarking on leave or extended absence from office.

The plenary session, presided over by Deputy Speaker Muhammed Fadeyi in the absence of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, saw lawmakers unanimously grant the approval. The assembly members conveyed their trust in Deputy Governor Lawal's capacity to ensure the government functions smoothly throughout Makinde's leave period.
