Padded bra concerns brings scrutiny at Tour de France

Riders competing in the Tour de France Femmes will undergo enhanced clothing inspections before each stage, following allegations that some athletes may be using padded bras to gain an aerodynamic edge. Race organizers confirmed the intensified scrutiny in a recent communique.

The directive specifically targets "non-essential elements" that could alter a rider's physical form, as defined by UCI regulations. This includes any item not solely for clothing or protection, or not strictly necessary for the functionality of apparel or accessories. The checks will pay "particular attention" to compliance with article 1.3.032 of the UCI rules.

The increased inspections are being implemented ahead of the stage four time trial, a challenging 21km route from Gevrey-Chambertin to Dijon. Uno-X Mobility rider Sigrid Haugset is set to start the stage in the yellow jersey after her victory on stage three. Irish cyclists Mia Griffin and Fiona Mangan are also participating in the event.
