Pakistan to Auction Hunting Permits for Markhor, Blue Sheep, and Ibex

The Gilgit-Baltistan Parks and Wildlife Department is preparing to auction hunting permits for several prized species as part of its trophy hunting program for the 2026-27 season. The auction will offer permits for three Astore markhor, 14 blue sheep, and 100 Himalayan ibexes. The Astore markhor commands the highest price, with a base rate set at $200,000 per permit. Blue sheep permits have a base rate of $25,000, while ibex permits start at $11,000. The department noted that one markhor permit is a carry-over from the previous season, bringing the total of new permits to three. The open bidding is scheduled for September 10 at the Forest Complex in Jutial, Gilgit. Trophy hunting activities will commence on October 15 and conclude on April 10, 2027, adhering to the GB Trophy Hunting Guidelines of 2019. Hunting will be restricted to designated conservation areas. Wildlife experts determined the hunting quotas based on annual surveys, ensuring conservation efforts are maintained alongside the program.
