Pakistan Urges Iran to Preserve Islamabad Memorandum Amidst U.S. Tensions

Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has urged Iran to uphold the Islamabad Memorandum and continue dialogue, particularly in light of recent military escalations involving the United States in the Middle East. Dar conveyed this message to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during a meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers in Kyrgyzstan.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister expressed his deep concern over the recent regional tensions and underlined the importance of dialogue, restraint, de-escalation by all parties and sustained diplomatic engagement to achieve lasting peace and stability.

The discussion occurred amidst heightened regional tensions, including recent U.S. strikes on Iranian military targets and threats from Yemen's Houthi rebels, who are backed by Iran, against commercial shipping routes in the Red Sea. Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Dar expressed deep concern over the regional tensions and stressed the importance of dialogue, restraint, de-escalation by all parties, and sustained diplomatic engagement for enduring peace and stability.
