Palace awaits Attorney General's proposal for new Special Crimes Deputy, raising concerns over independence

The Presidential Palace has stated that it has not yet received a proposal from the Attorney General for the appointment of a new Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus). This comes after the resignation of Febrie Adriansyah from the position, with Rudi Margono currently serving as the acting Jampidsus.

Presidential Spokesperson Prasetyo Hadi explained that the appointment of a Jampidsus is made by the President through a presidential decree (Keppres) based on a proposal from the Attorney General. "The mechanism is that the position is appointed and determined by the President through a Keppres based on the proposal from the Attorney General, which we have not yet received to this day," Prasetyo stated.

He further clarified that a Keppres is necessary for the formal appointment of a new Jampidsus. The resignation of the previous Jampidsus, Febrie Adriansyah, however, did not require a Keppres as it was a personal decision. "If it's a resignation, it certainly doesn't use a Keppres, because resignation is a personal decision of the individual who states they are stepping down from their position. So, it does not use a Keppres," Prasetyo added.

Attorney General ST Burhanuddin accepted Febrie Adriansyah's resignation on July 11, 2026. The Head of the Legal Information Center at the Attorney General's Office, Anang Supriatna, stated that the decision was made to uphold integrity, objectivity, and neutrality in law enforcement. Febrie's resignation is also reportedly linked to an ongoing investigation by the National Police.

The Indonesian Commission for Justice (Komjak) has emphasized the need for a definitive Jampidsus to be appointed promptly following Febrie's departure, highlighting the importance of maintaining the operational integrity of the Special Crimes Directorate.
