Palanga Art Weekend Faces Cancellation Amid Venue Dispute

The "Palanga Art Weekend 2026" festival, planned for August 20-23, is in jeopardy just weeks before its start. Organizers report they can no longer use Villa Auska, the intended main venue, which was specifically adapted for the event. This villa, slated for conversion, was meant to offer a unique experience of its current state to locals and visitors.

Festival organizer Tautvydas Urbelis expressed hope for a resolution with the Palanga City Municipality, emphasizing the urgency. "We are asking Palanga Mayor Šarūnas Vaitkus and the Palanga City Municipality for help in finding a solution that would allow us to open Villa Auska for the Palanga Art Weekend from August 20-23," the organizers stated in a press release. They believe the festival can create significant cultural value for Palanga and want to be part of its evolving cultural landscape.

However, Tamara Zaiceva, a spokesperson for the Palanga City Municipality administration, presented a different account. She stated that the festival organizers had not approached the municipality to request the use of Villa Auska or to discuss any terms for organizing the event there. Zaiceva clarified that the public impression of the municipality being unresponsive is inaccurate, as no formal request was ever made. This discrepancy raises questions about the festival's future and the communication between the organizers and local authorities.
