Pan-American Highway closures for Line 3 Metro construction: schedules and alternate routes

Traffic on Panama's Pan-American Highway will face temporary disruptions due to construction work for the Line 3 Metro project. The Metro de Panamá announced that specific lanes will be closed in Burunga, near the Arraiján sector, to facilitate the lifting of a pedestrian bridge.

The closures are part of an approved Traffic Management Plan and are scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, and conclude at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2. During this period, the lanes heading towards Panama Center, specifically from La Popular Eddy to Plaza Kuang, will be inaccessible.

Authorities have designated an alternate route for drivers needing to reach Panama Center. They are advised to make a U-turn in front of the entrance to the La Arboleda residential area and continue via the Arraiján–La Chorrera highway. Residents in the area will be able to access their homes with assistance from police officers stationed at the site. The Metro de Panamá urges drivers to pay attention to temporary signage and follow traffic personnel's guidance to minimize delays.
