Panama names Harold Arauz as starting pitcher for debut against Mexico at Santo Domingo 2026 Games

Panama has designated right-handed pitcher Harold Arauz to start their opening game against Mexico in the baseball tournament at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo. The tournament is scheduled to run until August 8 in the Dominican capital.

Panama's pitching coach, Crispín Poveda, confirmed Arauz's starting role for the July 31st game before the team's departure to the Dominican Republic. Poveda emphasized Arauz's extensive international experience, noting his representation of Panama in top-tier competitions, including the World Baseball Classic. This experience is seen as crucial for the team's debut.

Looking ahead to the second commitment on August 1st against Nicaragua, Poveda announced that right-handed pitcher Darío Agrazal will take the mound. Agrazal is one of two players on the Panamanian roster with Major League Baseball experience, making him a key asset for the team.

For the third game, scheduled for August 2nd against Colombia, the coaching staff has not yet finalized the starting pitcher. However, Poveda indicated that right-handed pitchers Gilberto Chú and Enrique Saldaña are the leading candidates for the role. Panama aims to return to the podium in this tournament, which has been historically dominated by Cuba with 15 titles. Panama has secured three silver medals and four bronze medals in the history of the baseball event, with their last medal coming over two decades ago.
