Panama's Corredor de las Playas expansion reaches 5% completion; bridge construction to start in September

Work on the expansion of Panama's Corredor de las Playas highway is progressing, with current completion at 5%. The project, which spans approximately 20 kilometers, aims to significantly enhance mobility and road safety in the western part of the country.

Minister of Public Works José Luis Andrade recently toured the construction sites, from El Nazareno in La Chorrera to Campana in Capira. The ongoing work is being carried out both day and night to maintain the project's timeline.

A key phase of the project, the construction of vehicular bridges, is slated to begin in September. The MOP (Ministry of Public Works) awarded the contract for this section, known as "Ampliación del Corredor de las Playas–Tramo Carretera Panamericana (CPA) El Espino–Sajalices y Variante de Campana," to Constructora MECO, S.A.

The expansion will widen the highway from four to six lanes, starting from the entrance of Hacienda Los Calderones in La Chorrera district up to the bridge over the Sajalices River in Chame. This upgrade is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and improve the overall travel experience for residents and visitors in the region.
