Panama's Susie Thayer Family Walk for Cancer Support Set for Sunday

Panama is set to host the XXVII Susie Thayer Family Walk this Sunday, August 30, an event that brings together diverse personal stories under a unified cause: supporting cancer patients.

Organized by Fundacáncer, the walk will commence at 7:00 a.m. along the Cinta Costera in Panama City and will simultaneously take place in La Chorrera, Colón, Penonomé, David, Tolé, Chitré, and Santiago. This nationwide participation aims to allow people from various provinces to join the initiative.

This year's proceeds are earmarked for the Intensive Care Unit of the National Oncology Institute (ION). The funds will be used to acquire high-technology mechanical ventilation equipment. This acquisition is expected to enhance patient care for those requiring ventilatory support, leading to safer and more efficient treatment, reduced complications, and improved recovery outcomes.

Fundacáncer's decision to hold the walk in eight different locations underscores its commitment to making the event accessible to more families and communities. From the interior provinces to the capital, each site will be part of a national day of solidarity and hope. Specific starting and ending points have been designated in each participating city, including Plaza Italia to Parque Libertador in La Chorrera, and Playa El Agallito to Parque Unión in Chitré.

In addition to the walk itself, the Cinta Costera event in Panama City will feature music, energy, and participation from school bands and murgas to create a special experience for all attendees. Those wishing to participate can purchase official T-shirts at Fundacáncer offices in Costa del Este and within the National Oncology Institute. A special T-shirt sale will also be held on Saturday, August 29.
