Panama weather: Afternoon thunderstorms and extreme UV radiation expected Sunday

Panama is set for a day of mixed weather, with afternoon showers and thunderstorms expected across various Pacific and Caribbean provinces. Intermittent rain is forecast to begin from early morning, affecting both coastal and inland areas.

Residents and visitors are advised to take precautions, particularly those engaging in maritime activities or spending time outdoors. High levels of UV radiation, reaching "Very High to Extreme" risk with values of 10 to 11+, necessitate protection. Mariners should be especially cautious, as wave heights will range between 1.4 and 1.6 meters on the Caribbean coast and 0.8 to 1.4 meters on the Pacific coast.

On the Caribbean side, the morning will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with intermittent rain, becoming more frequent and intense in western areas and parts of Colón. By afternoon, showers are predicted for Colón and the Guna Yala highlands, with heavier rain expected in mountainous regions from Bocas del Toro to northern Veraguas, continuing into the early evening. Other areas will experience variable cloudiness.

The Pacific coast anticipates partly cloudy to cloudy conditions overnight, with rain and thunderstorms in maritime zones and along the coasts of Darién and the Pearl Islands. Morning rains will persist in maritime sectors, the Gulf of Panama, Panama Este, and southern Azuero. Afternoon thunderstorms are forecast for Chiriquí, Veraguas, central provinces, Darién, and the Emberá-Wounaan regions, while other areas may see intense, short-lived downpours. Nighttime rain will shift to maritime zones, with partly to mostly clear skies expected over land.
