Panama Weather: Rains to Persist on Caribbean Coast, Strong Showers Expected in Pacific Areas

Panama is bracing for continued rainfall throughout Saturday, August 8, with the Caribbean coast set to bear the brunt of the wet weather. The Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama forecasts cloudy skies and intermittent rain of varying intensity across much of the Caribbean region, especially between Colón and Bocas del Toro, with conditions likely to persist into the afternoon and night.

Meanwhile, the Pacific coast will experience a partly cloudy morning with isolated showers. However, the afternoon is expected to bring increased cloud cover and scattered, short-lived downpours, some of which could be intense. These are particularly anticipated in the Metropolitan Region, coastal areas of Panamá Oeste and Panamá Este, Chiriquí, southern Veraguas, the Azuero Peninsula and its coasts, Darién, and the Emberá-Wounaan territories.

Several weather advisories are active, including one for heavy rain until August 10, rough seas in the Pacific until August 11, and Saharan dust incursions until August 10. Conditions in the Caribbean will see winds from the northwest and northeast at 25-35 km/h, prompting caution. The Pacific will experience similar wind speeds from the north and northwest. Sea conditions on the Caribbean coast will feature waves of 1.6 to 2.0 meters, with periods of 8-9 seconds, also requiring caution. The Pacific coast will have smaller waves, ranging from 0.6 to 1.2 meters, with longer periods of 16-17 seconds. UV-B radiation levels are expected to range from moderate to very high.
