Panasonic Malaysia to close TV production, affecting 400 workers

Panasonic Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. announced the closure of its TV production operations at Panasonic AVC Networks Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (PAVCKM) in Shah Alam, effective September.

The decision will impact 400 employees by the end of March, following the company's cessation of Technics-branded Hi-Fi audio production at the end of February next year. Panasonic stated it will collaborate with authorities and the Electrical Industry Workers' Union (EIWU) to support affected workers through job placement and career transition assistance.

Production from PAVCKM will be relocated to other Panasonic groups as part of a strategy to enhance competitiveness and optimize overall manufacturing output in Malaysia. However, the company affirmed its commitment to continuing audio product manufacturing within the country and improving the efficiency of its TV and audio sales and services.

Blu-ray Disc player production operations will move to China Hualu Panasonic AVC Networks Co, Ltd. (CHPAVC) in China. Despite these shifts, Panasonic emphasized that Malaysia remains a key regional hub, employing up to 12,000 people across high-value manufacturing, research and development, and corporate activities. The company also pledged continued investment in Malaysia to support its high-value supply chain strategy.
