Panevėžys Couple Turns Abandoned Homestead Into a Garden Oasis and Leaves City Life Behind

Dalia and Algis Atkočiūnas bought an abandoned homestead on the edge of Žibartoniai more than three decades ago, expecting it to serve as a place to escape the noise of Panevėžys.

Instead, the remote property gradually became their home. The couple transformed the neglected homestead into what is described as a genuine oasis of beauty.

Their work on the isolated farmstead became a source of pleasure, while life there turned into an ongoing creative process. They ultimately chose the countryside over the city retreat they had originally imagined.
