Pangdam XIII/Merdeka: Pentahelix collaboration helps spread Army programs

Major General Mirza Agus says Kodam XIII/Merdeka has relied heavily on a five-way partnership to bring its programs closer to the public. The partnership involves government, academics, private businesses, community groups and the media.

Speaking to journalists in Manado, Agus said he had benefited from the cooperation during roughly eight months of service in the command, which began in December 2025. He thanked the various groups for supporting the command's programs and activities.

Agus identified three areas that require shared support. The first is a large-scale community service program by the Indonesian Army in the Talaud Islands Regency and parts of the Sangihe Islands Regency. He described the work as a practical expression of the Army's concern for accelerating development and improving welfare, particularly in areas requiring special attention.

During roughly eight months serving in the Kodam XIII/Merdeka area since December last year, I have been greatly helped by the role of various parties, including the five main elements.

The second is the construction of Territorial Development Battalions. Kodam XIII/Merdeka has received four sites for new battalions under the Army's force-development program. The central target calls for every regency eventually to have one such battalion. Agus said the units should strengthen territorial defense while also contributing to development and public welfare.

The third point concerned military recruitment. Citing Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, Agus said registration and selection for enlisted, noncommissioned officer and officer recruitment would not involve fees. He also called for stronger ties between the command and journalists so accurate, objective and useful information could reach the public.
