Papua Governor Prepares Biak Hospital as Main Referral Center for Saireri Region

Governor Matius D. Fakhiri of Papua is preparing to elevate RSUD Biak Numfor to become the main referral hospital for the Saireri region, aiming to bolster healthcare services for communities across surrounding regencies.

On Saturday (23/5) we visited RSUD Biak to see the facilities in the region, and based on the visit, I am satisfied with the hospital's condition, which is clean and has adequate healthcare facilities compared to several other hospitals in Papua.

During a visit on Saturday, May 23, Governor Fakhiri inspected RSUD Biak Numfor. He expressed satisfaction with the hospital's cleanliness and the adequacy of its healthcare facilities, noting they surpass those in several other hospitals across Papua. He suggested RSUD Biak could serve as a benchmark for institutions like RSUD Dok 2 and RSUD Abepura in Jayapura.

For a long time, many patients from the region have been directly referred to Jayapura, even though healthcare services in Biak can be maximized to handle patients with moderate conditions, so people do not have to travel far.

Currently, many patients from outlying areas are referred directly to Jayapura. Fakhiri believes that Biak's hospital can effectively manage moderate cases, saving patients the arduous journey. The provincial government will also encourage regencies in the Saireri region to strengthen their referral systems to RSUD Biak, ensuring faster and more efficient healthcare delivery.

We are optimistic that improvements in healthcare services in Papua will impact the welfare of medical personnel.

Governor Fakhiri is optimistic that these improvements in healthcare services will positively impact the well-being of medical staff. The provincial government also plans to construct dormitory housing for doctors, nurses, and low-income patients' families, preventing them from having to sleep in hospital corridors. These initiatives are seen as a crucial first step toward enhancing the quality of human resources in Papua through better and more equitable healthcare.
