Paraguay's Agrarian Leagues to Hold National Congress, Discuss Crimes Against Humanity

Leaders of the Christian Agrarian Leagues (LAC) are set to convene their National Congress on August 14 and 15 in Quiindy, a municipality in the Paraguarí department. The gathering aims to elect a permanent leadership and evaluate the expansion of legal actions concerning crimes against humanity.

The first day, Friday, August 14, will focus on the presentation and approval of the provisional leadership's management report. Delegates and peasant members from across the country will also participate in the election of the organization's definitive national leadership. The agenda includes debating and approving a political document, outlining future activities, and revising the organic statutes.

Furthermore, the LAC leaders plan to analyze the creation of a production and commercialization cooperative specifically for the rural sector. The second day, Saturday, August 15, will feature meetings with the National Coordinator of Senior Citizens and other allied organizations. A key focus will be a report on the criminal complaint related to the emblematic Caaguazú Case (1980) and the formal expansion of legal actions for dictatorial crimes committed in Misiones, Paraguarí, Cordillera, and Jejuí.

The congress will conclude with an analysis of the current national and international political situation, the development of a proposal for national development, and the consolidation of unity among progressive and democratic sectors. The LAC has been actively campaigning for the clarification and prosecution of crimes against humanity in Paraguay.
