Paraguay's VP meets Colombian counterpart-elect in Barranquilla

Colombia's Vice President-elect, José Manuel Restrepo, held a meeting with Paraguay's Vice President, Pedro Alliana, during a brief stopover in Barranquilla. The encounter occurred just two days before the inauguration of Colombia's ultra-right-wing president-elect, Abelardo de la Espriella.

Alliana shared on X that the meeting focused on "the importance of continuing to strengthen cooperation and joint work" between their two nations. The choice of Barranquilla as the meeting location is significant, as President-elect De la Espriella has announced plans to make it an alternate presidential seat, fulfilling a campaign promise to decentralize power and bring the government closer to the regions.

At the end of the morning, during a brief stopover in the airport of Barranquilla, I had the opportunity to greet and converse with the Vice President-elect of Colombia, José Manuel Restrepo.

This meeting follows a discussion between Restrepo and Paraguayan President Santiago Peña in Lima a week prior. Peña confirmed his attendance at De la Espriella's inauguration ceremony, which is scheduled to take place in Cali, rather than the traditional location of Bogotá. The ceremony will be held at the Arena USC of Santiago de Cali University.

De la Espriella's inauguration is expected to draw a significant international presence, including King Felipe VI of Spain, representatives from the Netherlands, and a large delegation from the United States, alongside President Peña.
