Paraguayan Olympic Chief Inaugurates Rowing HQ, Eyes Mayoral Seat

Camilo Pérez, a candidate for mayor of Asunción and the current president of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee (COP), inaugurated the new headquarters of the Paraguayan Rowing Federation (Fepare) located on the Costanera. Pérez attended in his capacity as COP president, emphasizing his commitment to sports development.

He reiterated his intention to resign from his position as COP president should he be elected mayor of Asunción in the municipal elections scheduled for October 4th. The new rowing federation headquarters is seen as a significant step in bolstering national sports and enhancing Asunción's bay as a venue for training and international competitions.

The inauguration ceremony was led by Pablo Seitz Ortiz, president of the Paraguayan Rowing Federation, and attended by notable figures including Raúl Latorre, president of the Chamber of Deputies. Pérez highlighted that the new infrastructure represents "a further step in the development of Paraguayan sport" and "valued the impact it will have for the athletes."

"These are truly decisive advances for the development of athletes. We will continue to provide all the necessary technology for sport to keep growing in Paraguay," Pérez stated. He also expressed confidence in the Costanera's potential as a public gathering space, noting that "investment in infrastructure goes hand in hand with the achievements of Paraguayan athletes."

Pérez pointed to rowing's success as an example, stating, "We do not invest without sporting results. Rowing has put Paraguay very high, and now our great dream is to continue growing to compete for medals at the Olympic Games." The inauguration also coincided with the official launch of the U17 South American Rowing Championship "Asunción 2026."
