Parents organize 'vigils' at playground amid fears over woman's alleged harassment of children

Parents in Kėdainiai, Lithuania, have resorted to organizing "vigils" at a local playground, transforming a space meant for children's joy into a site of parental protection. Their action stems from escalating concerns over the alleged disruptive and harassing behavior of a woman towards children, a problem that has persisted for years despite previous legal interventions.

One mother publicly voiced her distress, describing how the woman provokes children, encourages bullying among older girls towards younger ones, and personally taunts them. This behavior leaves children returning home upset and fearful, reluctant to use the playground. The issue has sparked a significant community discussion, revealing that this is a chronic problem in the small city, with many residents identifying the woman and sharing details of her alleged erratic behavior, which some describe as worse than that of children.

Adding a more serious dimension, one parent, Balys, pursued legal action after his then-under-10-year-old son returned home visibly distressed and with a red mark on his cheek two years ago. Balys recounts an incident where the woman allegedly slapped his son after a minor dispute between the children. This account underscores the deep-seated nature of the problem and the community's frustration with the perceived inadequacy of existing systems to ensure the safety and well-being of children in public spaces.
