Parliamentary Committee Invites Youth Forum to Discuss Electoral System

Sri Lanka's Parliament has formed a special committee tasked with proposing a suitable voting system for provincial council elections. This committee has extended an invitation to the Parliamentary Forum for Youth to share their perspectives and suggestions on the matter.

The meeting with the youth forum is scheduled to take place in the first week of next month. Minister Wijeith Herath, who chairs the special parliamentary committee, confirmed the upcoming discussion. The committee's objective is to gather diverse viewpoints to inform its recommendations for the electoral process.

Prior to engaging with the youth forum, the parliamentary committee had extensive discussions with the Parliamentary Women's Forum. A key focus of that meeting was the issue of female representation within the provincial council elections, indicating the committee's broad approach to electoral reform.
