Party representatives propose improving election nominations; Huang Kuo-chang says opinions will be collected to perfect the system

Taiwan's Taiwan People's Party (TPP) convened its third national congress in Taichung, addressing internal party matters including the improvement of its candidate nomination mechanisms. The meeting, which also marked the party's seventh anniversary, comes after a year marked by electoral and disciplinary disputes.

Several party representatives raised proposals concerning the nomination process, prompted by controversies such as the non-nomination of candidates like Tsai Pi-ru and Lin Chao-yin. These discussions aimed to streamline party operations and foster greater internal consensus, especially in preparation for upcoming elections.

TPP Chairman Huang Kuo-chang acknowledged the need for system refinement, stating that the party would actively collect opinions to improve the nomination process. He emphasized that the party has overcome challenges over the past year with the support of its members and aims to grow stronger and more resolute. The party also highlighted legislative achievements, including bills related to nursing staff ratios and gig worker rights.
