Pastor Adeboye Prays for Nigeria's Return to Sporting Glory

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has led prayers for Nigeria to regain its former glory in international sports. Speaking at the church's national headquarters in Lagos during a special Thanksgiving service themed “Divine Champion,” Adeboye invoked divine intervention for the restoration of Nigeria's past achievements in sports.

He recalled a time when Nigeria achieved significant success, even winning the World Cup, and expressed a desire for such glorious days to return.

Those who are connected with sport one way or the other, that by the special grace of God, they will keep on succeeding, that all the glories that Nigeria used to enjoy in the past in sport would be restored. There was a time when Nigeria won the World Cup. That such glorious days would return.

Drawing parallels between the Christian life and a boxing match, Adeboye defined a champion as someone who perseveres and emerges victorious. He identified three essential elements for achieving this: strength, wisdom, and a good coach. Quoting scripture, he noted that human strength alone is often insufficient, highlighting the need for divine assistance. Adeboye also stressed the importance of wisdom, citing boxer Muhammad Ali as an example of strategic thinking, and identified Jesus Christ as the ultimate coach who guides believers through life's challenges.

Adeboye offered practical advice, encouraging believers to "stay down until they count to eight" when knocked down, allowing for rest and a refreshed comeback. He underscored prayer as a vital source of renewal and resilience in facing life's battles.
