Path to Justice for Father Declared 'Perpetrator of Dangerous Act'

Justice has been served for Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang after a two-year legal battle to clear her father's name following a fatal traffic accident. The case, initially closed with the deceased father deemed responsible, has been reopened, and the truck driver involved has been indicted.

The accident occurred on June 7, 2024, involving a motorcycle driven by the victim, Mr. N.V.O (68), a car, and a truck driven by Thach Sa Phonl (39). Mr. O. died at the scene. An initial investigation found Mr. O.'s blood alcohol content to be 222 mg/100 ml.

On September 12, 2024, authorities initially decided not to prosecute, classifying Mr. O. as the "person who committed a dangerous act and has died." This decision was upheld on October 24, 2024, despite Ms. Hang's appeals. However, further appeals to the Provincial People's Procuracy led to the case being reviewed.

Ultimately, the investigation revealed that the truck driver, Thach Sa Phonl, had driven outside his lane, contributing to the collision. The Procuracy's review overturned the previous decisions, acknowledging the truck driver's fault and initiating legal proceedings against him. Ms. Hang expressed her hope that the law will be applied correctly to prevent similar miscarriages of justice.
