Woman Arrested for Defrauding Investors of 14 Billion Dong in Vietnam

Authorities in Quang Ngai province, Vietnam, have arrested Nguyen Thi Hang, 39, on charges of fraud and asset appropriation. She is accused of defrauding victims of more than 14 billion Vietnamese dong (approximately $550,000 USD).

Hang allegedly deceived individuals by claiming she needed to raise funds for clients needing to settle "bank expiry" loans. She promised quick returns on investment and the swift return of principal, thereby gaining the trust of her victims. Initially, she made payments as agreed, but later used the funds for personal expenses and to cover existing debts.

When she could no longer meet her obligations, Hang had already taken over 14 billion dong from her victims. Despite her initial denial of the charges, investigators have gathered sufficient evidence to prosecute her under Article 174 of the Criminal Code for fraud and asset appropriation.

Provincial police are urging the public to exercise extreme caution regarding investment solicitations, particularly those involving "bank expiry" loans or promising high, fast returns without clear explanations of fund usage or repayment capabilities. They advise thorough verification of contracts, guarantees, and the legal standing of transactions before handing over large sums of money, and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately.
