PBNU Visits Kediri Islamic Boarding School to Finalize Conference Preparations

The General Secretariat of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) is intensifying preparations for a national conference of scholars (munas) and a grand conference (konbes). These key events are slated to take place at the Al Falah Islamic boarding school in Kediri, East Java, from June 20-21, 2026. The gatherings will also serve as a platform to finalize preparations for the organization's larger congress, scheduled for August 2026.

Saifullah Yusuf, the PBNU Secretary General, expressed gratitude to the Al Falah pesantren and its students for their diligent preparation efforts, which he noted significantly eases the burden on the central PBNU leadership. "We are very grateful to all the Gus here, all the students here have prepared well, and this certainly lightens the burden of the Nahdlatul Ulama central leadership," Yusuf stated during a visit to the pesantren. He also requested prayers for the smooth proceedings of the upcoming events.

Discussions regarding the location for the main congress are ongoing and will be deliberated during the munas and konbes. Several regions have reportedly expressed their readiness to host. "Following requests from several regions that are ready to host the congress, we will discuss it at the upcoming munas and konbes," Yusuf added. The PBNU leadership, including Rais 'Aam K.H. Miftachul Akhyar and Deputy Rais 'Aam K.H. Anwar Iskandar, were present at the Al Falah pesantren to finalize these crucial arrangements.

Meanwhile, KH Abdussalam Shohib, former coordinator of the Extraordinary Congress (MLB) presidium, suggested that the congress be held independently within a pesantren setting. He emphasized the need for financial self-sufficiency and freedom from external interference to ensure the elected PBNU leadership maintains transparency, integrity, and solidarity, contrasting this with the perceived conflicts of interest at the 2022 Lampung Congress.
