PDP fully ready for 2027 general elections, National Chairman tells IRI

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its full readiness for Nigeria's 2027 general elections. PDP National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, conveyed this assurance to a visiting delegation from the International Republican Institute (IRI) at the party's headquarters in Abuja.

But I want to assure you that the PDP is fully ready for the election.

Mohammed highlighted the PDP's extensive nationwide democratic structure, spanning all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and 774 local government areas. He emphasized the party's commitment to full participation in the upcoming polls. As evidence of public engagement, he pointed to the high turnout in the recent Osun State governorship election, stating it showed Nigerians' desire to choose their leaders.

You were in Osun for the governorship election that took place two days ago, and you can attest to the outcome of the election because the people of Osun turned out en masse to make sure that they made their choice of the person they wanted to be governor of the state.

The IRI delegation, led by African Regional Director Jenai Cox, is conducting a pre-election assessment mission. Their goal is to understand the political environment, election preparations, and the activities of political parties. Cox noted that the mission aims to identify issues needing attention as the 2027 elections approach. The delegation plans to share preliminary findings and recommendations with stakeholders before the week concludes.
