Pearly-Thinaah's China Open run ends in quarterfinals

Malaysia's challenge at the China Open badminton championship has concluded with the quarterfinal exit of the nation's top women's doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah. The world No. 5 duo fell in straight sets to the formidable Japanese pair Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto, with a score of 16-21, 16-21, in a match lasting 46 minutes.

This defeat marks the fourth consecutive loss for Tan and Thinaah against Fukushima and Matsumoto, leaving their head-to-head record tied at 5-5. The Malaysian pair's performance in the tournament was hampered by Tan's lingering fitness issues, which made their loss to the world No. 3 Japanese team not entirely unexpected. Their last victory over Fukushima-Matsumoto was at the Japan Masters in November of the previous year.

Tan and Thinaah were the final Malaysian representatives in the competition, following the early exits of seven other national players in the second round. Their elimination signifies the end of Malaysia's hopes for a title at the China Open.
