Pearly-Thinaah Struggle into Quarters; Zi Yu-Noraqilah Cause Upset at Taiwan Open

Malaysia's top women's doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, showed signs of rustiness as they battled through to the quarterfinals of the Taiwan Open Badminton Championships. Despite being the top seeds, the world No. 5 pair faced a tough challenge against the young Taiwanese duo Chen Yan Fei and Sun Liang Ching, ultimately winning 11-21, 21-12, 21-15 in a 43-minute match.

Tan and Thinaah, still searching for their peak form, conceded the first set before drawing on their experience to secure the victory. They are set to face another young Taiwanese pair, Lin Chih Chun and Yang Chu Yun (world No. 39), in the quarterfinals. With no prior meetings against their next opponents, the Malaysian pair will need to significantly elevate their game to avoid an upset.

In contrast, the young Malaysian pair of Low Zi Yu and Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan delivered a more convincing performance, causing a surprise by defeating the higher-ranked Taiwanese pair Hsu Yin Hui and Lin Jhih Yun 20-22, 21-13, 21-11. Currently ranked 67th in the world, Zi Yu-Noraqilah are living up to their "giant killer" reputation and will face Thailand's Hathaithip Mijad and Napapakorn Tungkasatan (world No. 36) in their quarterfinal match.

Meanwhile, in the men's singles event, young Malaysian player Eogene Ewe was eliminated after losing to Taiwan's world No. 6 Chou Tien Chien with a score of 17-21, 20-22.
