Pedestrian killed as bus crashes into gas substation in Dhaka

A tragic accident in Dhaka claimed the life of a pedestrian when a speeding bus veered off the road and struck him before crashing into a gas substation. The incident occurred around 6:30 pm near the entrance of Kurmitola General Hospital.

The victim, Rafiqul Islam, 50, was reportedly waiting for a rickshaw on the footpath after finishing his work shift. A Paristan Paribahan bus reportedly lost control, mounted the footpath, and hit Islam, who died instantly. The bus then crashed into the adjacent Titas Gas substation.

Police have arrested the driver of the bus and seized the vehicle. According to hospital officials, the crash caused minor damage to the gas substation, resulting in a small leak. However, the gas supply was immediately cut off, and the incident did not disrupt the hospital's operations due to alternative arrangements.

Rafiqul Islam, an unmarried man from Dinajpur, had been employed as a store supervisor at the Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden for nearly two decades. His nephew described him as having just completed his workday when the accident occurred.
