Pemuda Muhammadiyah Encourages Cadres to Engage at the Grassroots Level

The central leadership of Pemuda Muhammadiyah, the youth wing of the influential Muhammadiyah organization, has issued a strong call for its members to actively engage with society and secure strategic positions within Indonesia. This directive was articulated during the opening of Tanwir II Pemuda Muhammadiyah 2026, held in Bali under the theme "Growing and Rooting for a Victorious Indonesia."

Don't let the organization be busy building stages but forget to build cadres. We don't need a movement that is only loud on social media but quiet in the branches and twigs.

Speaking at the event, which was opened by Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the Chairman of PP Pemuda Muhammadiyah, Dzulfikar Ahmad Tawalla (Fikar), stressed that the organization must not lose its social roots amidst rapid development. He cautioned against movements that are "just noisy on social media, but quiet in the branches and twigs," emphasizing the need for tangible presence and impact at the grassroots level.

Fikar highlighted that the challenges facing young Indonesians today extend beyond employment and education to include a "crisis of direction, inequality of access, and the loss of moral courage in the public sphere." Therefore, he urged Pemuda Muhammadiyah cadres to develop both capacity and courage, enabling them to "seize the strategic spaces of the nation." The vision is to cultivate intellectuals, social activists, entrepreneurs, politicians, and future leaders who remain committed to the people and the principles of "progressive Islam."

By understanding the "realities of the people" and simultaneously looking towards the future, the organization seeks to empower its members to lead Indonesia towards a more prosperous and just future, embodying the spirit of "progressive Islam" in all their endeavors.
