Penang Committed to 100% Cashless Transactions

The Penang state government is firmly committed to reaching its target of 100% cashless transaction usage in the near future, implementing several key initiatives to achieve this goal. H'ng Mooi Lye, Chairman of the State Committee for Local Government, Urban and Rural Planning, highlighted the ongoing efforts to promote digital payments.

One significant initiative involves securing the participation of all 24 state departments and agencies in the cashless campaign. This broad engagement aims to embed cashless practices across government operations. Additionally, the state is focusing on continuous improvement by conducting user satisfaction surveys. These surveys are designed to gather feedback and understand users' experiences with digital payment facilities, ensuring the system meets public needs.

The state is also intensifying its outreach and promotional activities. This includes installing promotional materials in state government offices and utilizing official communication channels such as websites, social media, and digital platforms. These efforts are crucial for raising public awareness about the convenience, security, and benefits of cashless payments.

Penang has already demonstrated its leadership in digital payments, having previously been recognized as the champion of the "Cashless Boleh 5.0" national campaign. The state achieved a remarkable 99.40% rate of cashless transactions, surpassing other states and securing RM50,000 in prize money, along with a trophy and championship certificate. This marks the second consecutive year Penang has excelled in this area, having recorded a 95% cashless transaction rate in the "Cashless Boleh 4.0" campaign.
