People's Power Party leader vows unity with conservatives, focus on talent

Jang Dong-hyuk, the leader of South Korea's People's Power Party, has declared his commitment to forging alliances with all conservative factions and recruiting individuals equipped for robust political battles. Marking his first anniversary in the leadership role, Jang emphasized his dedication to strengthening the party from within.

"We must first strengthen our own capabilities to fight against the tyranny of the regime and protect the sovereignty of the people," Jang stated during a press conference at the party's central headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul. He outlined his vision for "reform from within" to transform the People's Power Party into a formidable political force, promising to build a "vibrant system" that enables the party to engage effectively in political contests.

Jang further pledged to enhance the influence of party members by allowing them direct participation in the selection of provincial party chairs and district chapter leaders. This initiative is seen as a move to push forward the "direct election system for district chapter leaders," a proposal that recently faced resistance from the party's supreme council.

He articulated a strategy where "talent and systems work hand-in-hand to create an environment where we can fight and win." Jang believes that a strong system will attract capable individuals, who in turn will foster a better environment, leading to further system improvements. This cyclical approach aims to build a party that is both resilient and effective in its political endeavors.
