Perak police seize over RM46.3 million in drugs since January

Perak police have confiscated drugs valued at over RM46.3 million in the first eight months of this year, marking a significant effort in combating drug trafficking in the state. The seizures included substantial amounts of syabu (methamphetamine), ecstasy, heroin, and ganja.

During the same period, a total of 12,916 individuals were arrested across Perak for various drug-related offenses. Of these, 1,934 were arrested for drug trafficking, an increase of 8 percent compared to the previous year. Notably, 299 individuals were arrested under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries penalties of death or life imprisonment.

Further enforcement actions included the arrest of 68 individuals under the Special Prevention Measures Act 1985. Police believe these individuals are key figures, including masterminds, planners, and financiers, behind dismantled drug syndicates. In contrast, arrests for drug possession saw a slight decrease, with 4,482 individuals apprehended, down from 4,509 in the same period last year. Arrests for urine-related offenses also decreased by 4 percent.

In a separate operation, Perak police destroyed various confiscated drugs and ketum leaves worth RM4.08 million. These items were part of over 5,000 investigation papers for cases concluded between 2000 and 2025. The confiscated evidence was handed over to Clinco Waste Management Sdn. Bhd. for disposal, representing the culmination of numerous raids and seizures that have completed their legal proceedings.
