Pereira pointed to "political management problems" of the government and criticized Trump's "deplorable" immigration policy

Fernando Pereira, the president of Uruguay's Frente Amplio party, has recognized that the government led by Yamandú Orsi is facing "political management problems." Following a meeting with key government officials, Pereira stated that while the government is fulfilling its program and making progress, it struggles to effectively communicate these advancements to the public.

We have noticed political management problems for our progress, our achievements, and our program, which is being fulfilled, to finally reach the rest of society, and we detect as a problem that the FA is not adequately transmitting, that is, not doing good political management of the amount of things we are changing in Uruguay.

Pereira emphasized that the party needs to improve its "political management" to ensure that its achievements, such as historically low unemployment rates, robust educational scholarship programs, and tax policies favoring lower-income individuals, are adequately conveyed to society. He believes the party is not "adequately transmitting" the positive changes occurring in Uruguay.

One builds a program and then has to be able to generate the narrative of how it is being fulfilled.

Regarding international relations, Pereira addressed the ongoing dialogue between the Uruguayan and U.S. governments concerning the potential reception of Cubans deported by the Trump administration. While not opposing dialogue with all countries, Pereira strongly condemned Donald Trump's immigration policies, describing them as "deplorable." He criticized the practice of detaining individuals without cause and deporting them to other nations, stating that such actions violate human rights and should not be supported.

Uruguay has to dialogue with all countries in the world. It would be absurd to consider oneself in solitude and not dialogue. Another thing is what the consequences of that dialogue are. If they are deportations that violate human rights, clearly the Frente Amplio will not agree, not today, not tomorrow, not ever. If it is the entry of Uruguayans or foreigners who want to enter of their own free will, that has always been a form of asylum used by Uruguay.

Pereira also noted that the Frente Amplio has requested information from the government about these discussions to ensure transparency and inform the public. He acknowledged concerns about declining public approval ratings for the government and President Orsi but asserted that governance should not be dictated solely by polls. Instead, he stressed the importance of adhering to the program and the constitution, while improving the political communication of the government's successes.

Trump uses a policy that I imagine for most of us here is deplorable, which is to imprison people without having committed any crime just for the fact of living in the United States, and then they want to transfer them to other countries. This policy should not be shared by anyone.
