Perlis Government Should Serve Full Term, Follow Raja's Decree: Lawmaker

A Pakatan Harapan lawmaker has called for stability in the Perlis state government, urging it to serve its full term despite political realignments. Gan Ay Ling, the sole opposition assemblywoman in the state, emphasized that any decisions regarding the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly must prioritize the welfare of the people.

She referenced the decree by the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, advising that the state government, led by Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah, should be allowed to complete its term without disruption. Gan stressed that dissolving the assembly would incur costs and that the state's development should take precedence over other political issues.

"Whatever happens between PAS and Bersatu, it is best to maintain the state government's administration until the end of its term. Follow the decree of His Majesty the Raja of Perlis," she told Utusan Malaysia. Her comments come after PAS announced the termination of its political cooperation with Bersatu, with the Islamist party indicating it would explore new political partnerships.

When asked about her stance on supporting either PAS or Bersatu representatives, Gan declined to comment, stating that all assemblymen should prioritize the people over political disputes.
