Perlis Wawasan Coordinator Claims Good Ties with Pas Perlis

Azahar Hassan, the coordinator for Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan) in Perlis, has asserted that his relationships with the Perlis chapter of the Malaysian Islamic Party (Pas) are generally positive, particularly with those holding positions within the party's state liaison body.

Hassan clarified that a recent statement from the Perlis Pas Commissioner, Ahmad Ali, rejecting political cooperation with Wawasan leaders in Perlis, was based on his personal dealings. He indicated that his interactions with the Perlis Pas leadership, including the presidents of the three Pas divisions and committee members who won recent party elections, are cordial.

My relationship with Pas Perlis is good, especially with those who hold positions within the party's liaison body.

However, Hassan noted that his relationship is less amicable with former Menteri Besar and Pas elected representatives who were unsuccessful in the party's internal elections. He suggested that these individuals might be the source of the reported friction.

The only ones who are not so good are the former Menteri Besar and Pas elected representatives, most of whom lost in the party elections before.

Commissioner Ahmad Ali had previously stated that Pas would not engage in political cooperation with any individuals from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) who are accused of betrayal and have now joined Wawasan. Ali emphasized this stance as a sign of respecting trust and maintaining public confidence in political integrity, adding that cooperation would cease until the betrayal issues are resolved by Bersatu. Hassan, who previously served as the Perlis Bersatu secretary and a Senator, announced his departure from Bersatu to join Wawasan, where he was appointed state coordinator.

Hassan also stated that Wawasan, as part of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, aims to retain Perlis under its administration. The party plans to establish its Penang state committee soon and anticipates that a significant portion of Bersatu's grassroots members will join Wawasan. For the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16), Wawasan targets contesting six State Legislative Assembly seats and one parliamentary seat in Perlis, aiming to ensure the continued governance of the coalition in the state.
