The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed confidence that joint development and well-being would continue to be built on trust, mutual respect, and fraternity between the two peoples.

Diplomatic ties between the South American neighbors were re-established in 1998, following a peace agreement that resolved long-standing border disputes. This renewed cooperation has seen tangible progress, including agreements to combat transnational organized crime and exchange expertise in prison management.
