Peru's Formal Employment Grows for 26th Consecutive Month

Peru's formal employment sector has demonstrated sustained growth, increasing by 4.2% in May compared to the same month in the previous year. This marks the 26th consecutive month of expansion, according to a report from the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP). The positive trend signifies a robust job market, with 251,000 new formal positions generated across the country during May.

The private sector has been a significant contributor to this growth, experiencing a 5.4% year-on-year increase in formal employment. This surge is largely attributed to increased hiring in key industries. The services sector led the way, adding 98,000 new jobs, followed by commerce with 51,000 new positions, and the agricultural sector, which generated 38,000 jobs.

This consistent upward trajectory in formal employment highlights a period of economic recovery and expansion in Peru. The BCRP's findings underscore the resilience of the Peruvian economy and its capacity to create stable employment opportunities, particularly within its service, commerce, and agricultural industries.
