Peru's Fujimori and Uruguay's Orsi agree to joint agenda against organized crime

President-elect of Peru, Keiko Fujimori, and President of Uruguay, Yamandú Orsi, have agreed to collaborate on an agenda targeting organized transnational crime. The agreement was reached during a meeting in Lima, Peru, prior to Fujimori's presidential inauguration.

The two leaders met at the Palacio de Torre Tagle, the headquarters of Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to the Peruvian Foreign Ministry, they highlighted the bicentennial of diplomatic relations between their countries and their traditional neighborly ties.

Fujimori and Orsi emphasized their governments' commitment to advancing a substantive agenda. This agenda will focus on combating transnational organized crime, fostering technological innovation, enhancing technical cooperation, and strengthening trade and investments.

President Orsi arrived in Lima to attend Fujimori's inauguration ceremony. He is among several regional leaders invited to the event, which marks the culmination of Fujimori's fourth attempt at the presidency. She was proclaimed the winner of the presidential election runoff on July 3, securing a narrow victory of less than 50,000 votes over her left-wing opponent.

Other notable leaders attending the inauguration include Argentina's President Javier Milei, Bolivia's President Rodrigo Paz, Chile's President José Antonio Kast, Panama's President José Raúl Mulino, Ecuador's President Daniel Noboa, and King Felipe VI of Spain.
