Peru's Indecopi offers WhatsApp support to challenge bureaucratic business hurdles

Peru's National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) has launched new channels to combat bureaucratic hurdles that hinder business operations. Citizens and companies can now consult via WhatsApp and email to determine if municipal requirements, fees, or other demands constitute illegal or unreasonable "bureaucratic barriers."

The initiative aims to simplify administrative processes by providing guidance on how to challenge these obstacles. Specialists at Indecopi will assess whether specific demands from public entities impede economic activity or legal procedures. Users can seek this orientation before filing a formal complaint, allowing them to understand their case's potential for evaluation.

Residents in other regions can use WhatsApp number 950 403 285 or email barrerasregionales@indecopi.gob.pe. Additionally, the email consultas-sel@indecopi.gob.pe is available for queries related to second-instance procedures before the Specialized Chamber for the Elimination of Bureaucratic Barriers.

If Indecopi confirms the existence of a bureaucratic barrier, its specialists will advise on the available mechanisms for its elimination. Should individuals or businesses decide to proceed with a complaint, they can submit it through the Virtual Public Desk or in person at Indecopi's offices. However, not all public entity demands are classified as bureaucratic barriers; requirements established by law, taxes, fees for state services, administrative sanctions, and tax disputes are among the exclusions.
