Peru's President Fujimori welcomes Pope Leo XIV's upcoming visit

Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori celebrated the official confirmation of Pope Leo XIV's upcoming visit to Peru from November 11-17. She stated that the country awaits the pontiff "with open hearts to welcome him back home, to Peru," where he previously spent over two decades as a missionary and bishop.

Fujimori, who recently began her term, will be responsible for receiving the Pope at the Government Palace in Lima. She described his arrival as a "moment of encounter for our faith and a message of hope for our country." The Pope, born in Chicago, holds Peruvian nationality since 2015 and lived in the country for nearly 20 years as an Augustinian missionary and later as bishop of Chiclayo.

The pontiff's week-long stay will include visits to Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco, and Pucallpa. This journey signifies a return to Latin America, a region of significant importance for the Catholic Church. Pope Leo XIV's international travel itinerary includes previous visits to Turkey, Lebanon, Monaco, Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, Guinea Equatorial, Spain, and an upcoming trip to France.
