PF summons Jaques Wagner to testify on suspicions of payments linked to Master

Senator Jaques Wagner, a former leader in President Lula's government in the Senate, has been summoned by the Federal Police to testify in August. His testimony is part of an ongoing investigation into suspicions of payments connected to the Master bank. Wagner was the subject of a police operation in June, facing allegations of receiving payments from Daniel Vorcaro's bank through his daughter-in-law's company and a Salvador apartment valued at R$2.5 million.

The investigation gained traction from analyzing materials seized from Augusto Lima, a former partner at Master bank and an individual reportedly close to Wagner. The senator's deposition is scheduled for the first week of August. Wagner's defense team has not yet issued a statement regarding the summons. During the Federal Police operation targeting the senator, $55,000 and 33,000 euros (approximately R$471,000) were found at locations associated with him.

Wagner has asserted that the funds, particularly the $55,000, have a legal source. He explained that he sometimes purchases dollars from Banco do Brasil for travel. He also noted that travel allowances provided by the Senate can be paid or deposited in dollars, a practice he follows to save and hold funds. The investigation continues to explore the alleged financial links between Wagner and the Master bank.
