PHOTO Crowds flock to the sea from early morning: Kilometers-long queues on A1, wind bans on the main road

Croatia is experiencing significant traffic disruptions as many travelers head towards the coast. Major highways, particularly the A1, are seeing extensive queues, with reports of kilometer-long lines forming even early in the morning at toll stations like Lučko. Traffic is moving in stop-and-go waves between toll plazas and junctions, with short delays occurring frequently.

Further congestion is evident on other key routes. The A2 Zagreb-Macelj highway has a kilometer-and-a-half-long queue at the Trakošćan toll station heading towards Zagreb. Roadworks are also contributing to slowdowns, with single-lane traffic in both directions on sections of the A2 and A3 highways, causing further delays and requiring drivers to navigate narrowed lanes.

The A3 Bregana-Lipovac highway is particularly affected, with a four-kilometer-long line of both passenger and commercial vehicles heading towards the Bajakovo border crossing. Roadworks between Sveta Nedelja and the Zagreb West junction have closed lanes, forcing traffic onto the opposite side of the highway, which is operating in both directions. Similar slowdowns are expected on the A4 Goričan-Zagreb highway due to ongoing construction.

Travelers on the Istrian Ypsilon (A8) face disruptions due to the ongoing construction of the full highway profile, leading to two-way traffic on narrowed lanes and auxiliary lanes. The section between the Učka tunnel and the Matulji junction has special traffic regulations and potential temporary interruptions. Additionally, strong winds have led to restrictions on the Adriatic coastal road (Jadranska magistrala) between Novi Vinodolski and Sveta Marija Magdalena, prohibiting double-decker buses, motorcycles, and vehicles with trailers. Roadworks and minor landslides are also causing localized delays and traffic diversions on various state roads across the country.
