Pia Babnik enjoys the fight for the top before heading to Mauritius

Our very own Pia Babnik has once again demonstrated her exceptional talent on the European Ladies Tour (LET), securing a commendable third-place finish at the recent tournament in South Africa. After holding a strong lead through the first two days, Pia battled challenging conditions, including wind and rain, which ultimately favored her competitors. Despite this, she finished with an impressive 12-under-par total, just a few strokes shy of the victory.

This latest achievement is a significant milestone for the 22-year-old from Ljubljana. It marks her 20th top-10 finish on the LET and, crucially, ensures she retains her tour card for the upcoming season. Her father and coach, Aleš Babnik, noted that while Pia was pleased with her overall performance, the putting proved tricky in the final rounds, likely influenced by the unpredictable weather.

Z igro sem zelo zadovoljna le putti tretji in četrti dan niso šli v mojo prid. Veliko puttov sem zgrešila le za kakšen centimeter. Sigurno me je pri tem motil veter saj je bilo veliko ugibanja, koliko bo veter vplival na linijo putta.

Speaking after the tournament, Pia expressed satisfaction with her game, acknowledging that only a few crucial putts didn't go her way. She highlighted the difficulty of reading the greens with the wind playing a significant factor. Nevertheless, her consistent form—following a sixth place in Australia and fifth place the previous week—is undeniable. As she prepares for the long flight to Mauritius, the focus remains on maintaining this high level of play. For Slovenia, Pia Babnik is not just a golfer; she is a symbol of dedication and a source of national pride, consistently competing at the highest level and inspiring many back home.
