Pingtung County Invites Seniors to E-sports Competition with Over NT$200,000 Prize Pool

Pingtung County is inviting seniors aged 55 and older to participate in its "LEVEL UP! Silver Flash E-sports Competition," a unique event designed to bridge the gap between older generations and digital technology through engaging physical games. The competition, which has extended its registration deadline to August 21, offers a fun and interactive way for seniors to stay active and connected.

The event is scheduled for September 12 at the National Chaozhou High School, featuring three popular motion-sensing games: virtual bowling, dancing, and rhythm cooking. These games are chosen for their simple, intuitive controls, allowing participants to enjoy the experience without needing prior gaming expertise. By simply mimicking movements like exercising or waving their hands, players can control on-screen characters, making the games accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Many elderly people worry that they have never played video games before, but in fact, motion-sensing games focus on body movement and interactive fun, and do not require gaming skills.

With a total prize pool exceeding NT$200,000, the competition aims to provide significant incentives for participation. Each registered team will receive a NT$500 Whole Foods gift certificate upon check-in, and every participant will be gifted a sports towel. The competition is divided into three age groups, with cash prizes for the top three finishers in each category: NT$10,000 for first place, NT$8,000 for second, and NT$6,000 for third.

The Pingtung County Government's Social Affairs Department emphasizes that the games focus on physical movement and interactive fun, rather than complex gaming skills. They encourage community care centers, welfare centers, and groups of friends to form teams and join the event. Pre-event tutorials and guidance will be provided on the day of the competition to ensure all participants feel comfortable and ready to play, making it an ideal opportunity for seniors to explore new forms of recreation and social interaction.
