Pingtung Wife's Divorce Bid Denied After Hotel Rendezvous Allegations

A woman in Pingtung sought a divorce from her husband, citing his alleged failure to pay insurance premiums and provide financial support. The couple, married in 2012 and sharing a child, had been living separately since 2015 due to marital discord.

Her husband opposed the divorce, accusing her of infidelity. He claimed to have discovered her at a hotel with another individual in 2017, presenting evidence that included a condom wrapper. The wife admitted to "spiritual infidelity" but denied being at the hotel, stating she only chatted with the person outside.

While the judge acknowledged the husband's efforts to maintain the marriage and provide for the family, the evidence of the wife's alleged affair was deemed inadmissible as it was obtained through illegal means, such as secret filming. However, the court found that the wife's admission of spiritual infidelity and the overall marital breakdown, characterized by coldness and distance, were primarily her responsibility.

Consequently, the judge ruled against the wife's divorce petition, concluding that her actions were the cause of the irreparable damage to the marriage. The court denied her request for a divorce.
