Piraeus upgrades Freattyda beach with modern facilities and enhanced accessibility

Freattyda beach in Piraeus has entered a new era following the completion of extensive upgrade works by the Municipality of Piraeus. The project aims to transform one of the city's beloved seaside destinations into a modern, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and tourists alike.

Building on the recent redevelopment of Votsalakia beach, the municipality's initiative focused on improving the daily experience for beachgoers and enhancing the quality of public space. The interventions at Freattyda have revitalized it as a hub for recreation, sports, and relaxation, befitting a contemporary coastal city.

The work, carried out by the municipality's repair, maintenance, and environmental services, involved a thorough cleaning of the shore, removing debris and large stones. The surrounding green spaces were enhanced with new plantings and an automated irrigation system, creating a more pleasant atmosphere. Additionally, the beach now boasts 20 new umbrellas, showers, changing rooms, and an accessible pathway.

Significant emphasis was placed on accessibility and safety. The upgraded "Sea Track" system now allows individuals with disabilities to access the sea independently, supported by a dedicated rest area with umbrellas. New accessible restrooms and changing facilities further improve usability. Lifeguards will be present throughout the summer season to ensure swimmer safety.

Mayor Giannis Moralis, along with deputy mayors and local community representatives, visited the revitalized beach. "The Municipality consistently upgrades the coastal front, creating modern, safe, and accessible recreational areas that improve citizens' daily lives and enhance Piraeus's attractiveness as a seaside destination," stated Moralis. He highlighted the Freattyda project as another significant step in providing infrastructure that meets modern needs.
