Piratas FC finally addressed the death of 15-year-old player Gael Uscanga Carranza after remaining silent for several hours, as the news shocked Mexican football and triggered controversy.

Gael, before the session began and at the start of the warm-up, reported feeling generally unwell. The medical team activated the protocol, examined him, and contacted emergency services and his mother, who arrived within minutes for her son and requested the medical staff’s support to transfer him to the Veracruz Red Cross facilities.

The Veracruz club said Gael had been invited to participate in its youth development pilot program. Before the training session and during the warm-up, he reported feeling generally unwell, prompting the medical team to activate its protocol.

According to the club’s statement, staff examined Gael, contacted emergency services and called his mother. She arrived within minutes, collected her son and requested medical assistance to transfer him to the Red Cross facilities in Veracruz. The club said the Uscanga Carranza family was receiving its “unconditional and permanent support.”
