PiS Expels Morawiecki Allies, Creating Internal Party Rift

Poland's ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party has expelled several politicians linked to former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, following their alignment with his new political initiative, "Rozwój Plus." Decisions from the PiS disciplinary court, dated August 13, declared the move of these politicians from the PiS parliamentary club to "Rozwój Plus" a "grave violation" of the party's statute.

Based on Article 40 of the PiS statute, these politicians were removed from the party. However, Polsat News reports that Piotr Muller, Michał Dworczyk, and Waldemar Buda remain in PiS because the party's collegial court determined they did not form a new club. These expulsions align with earlier statements from PiS leadership regarding parliamentarians who supported Morawiecki.

"This only confirms the earlier declarations of the party leader and disciplinary spokesperson," stated MP Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk. "I regret that Law and Justice sees the source of its rapid success in expelling the former prime minister and dozens of MPs. Nevertheless, I am not offended and I wish Law and Justice, despite everything, the best."

Szynkowski vel Sęk added that he had not yet received a decision regarding himself. "We are currently concentrating on preparing an attractive alternative to Donald Tusk's government, an alternative that will be programmatic, not entangled in emotions, especially concerning discussions on the right about the statute and expulsions," he said. Those close to Morawiecki were not surprised by the PiS leadership's decisions, viewing them as expected and calling them "a treat for absolute connoisseurs."
